Inspired by the prism as an optical element that may be used to refract light or break it into its spectral colors, this blog is dedicated to the other side of the medal, to seeing things in a different light, to dissecting their elementary parts and readjusting the focus.

To see life through a prism, one must wear cool shades...

The blog also takes inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s unforgettable stage character Miss Prism, an intellectual, pedantic, yet hopelessly romantic would-be novelist in the landmark play The Importance of Being Earnest (1895). In true comedy-of-manners fashion, there is thus also a more playful side to this blog, and the one or the other excursion into fictional prose.

Miss Prism sounds an awful lot like misprision, which the OED defines as “a wrongful act or omission; a misdemeanour or failure of duty by a public official.” Let’s hope that my duty of regularly updating this blog shall not be violated too often, and I will succeed in perhaps provoking and agitating, but not quite offending you, my dear reader.

Depending on the topic (and, to be frank, my current read, overall mood, and the color of my breakfast cereal), blog posts are written in either English or German, or beides. You get the jist. Willkommen an Bord, let’s start the ride!
